Insights from Renowned Criminal Defense Attorney

What lesson from your career do you consider most pivotal for shaping your approach to trial advocacy in high-stakes cases, particularly cross-examination?

Maintaining a fear of failure has been crucial in my career. This fear drives me to do everything within reason to secure a win, especially in cases with slim odds. The key is putting in immense work, never taking shortcuts, and outworking the opposition to level the playing field. Over-preparation is essential; the more thorough your preparation, the more confidently you can navigate unexpected courtroom situations.

What was your experience like starting your own law firm at a young age, and what prompted you to venture out on your own?

I was on the verge of becoming a partner at a well-respected firm when my mentor advised me to strike out on my own to establish my own identity and reputation. Despite initial apprehension, I took the leap, initially renting office space from my mentor before fully branching out. Overcoming fears of failure and self-doubt was crucial, and I learned the value of showing unwavering confidence to clients, even in challenging situations.

In today's legal landscape, knowing the material thoroughly is paramount. Avoid the distractions of social media and focus on deep understanding and preparation. What was the best concert you've ever attended, considering your passion for music?

How do you foresee the upcoming leadership changes in New York City affecting public safety, the Jewish community, and the future of criminal justice, given your outspoken support for Israel and stance against anti-Semitism?

The transition of leadership in NYC with a socialist agenda poses challenges for public safety and the Jewish community. Policies suggesting reduced police presence and unconventional emergency response measures may jeopardize safety. The alignment with anti-Semitic ideologies within the new leadership is concerning, indicating potential negative implications for criminal justice and community relations.
